About Us

Welcome to one of the only sun-dial shaped lavender fields in the world.

Saltwater Farm features one of the only sun-dial shaped lavender fields in the world. Rather than straight, parallel rows, each lavender row radiates from the top right corner of our field.

When you stand at the top right corner where all the rows begin, you feel an energetic shift as you take in the magnificent view of our farm and the farm fields beyond. The slight elevation creates a perfect overlook, inviting you to pause in stillness as you contemplate the expanse of farmland and the majestic view.

We plan to install a terrace overlooking the field, so we can host a variety of events, including sunrise yoga, sunset drinks, and more.

Our Story

Hi everyone!

My name is Anne Cynar and I’m the owner of Saltwater Farm, the lavender farm on the corner of Sound Avenue and Roanoke in Riverhead, New York.

I grew up in Paris with a French mother and an American father. During my childhood, I spent many summers in Provence, home of the world’s largest and most famous lavender fields. This is where my love of lavender was born.

I love the smell of lavender blooms baking in the summer heat, and I love hearing insects and cicadas singing all day long in the sunshine. Before buying this farm, I spent years dreaming of owning a lavender farm. I even drove hours for a chance to volunteer at other people’s lavender farms. just to spend time with my hands in the dirt!

Having my own lavender field and being able to share my love of lavender with you is a dream come true. Thank you for visiting!

Our Lavender Plants

What lavender varietals can we see on the field?

Our lavender field features 3 varietals of English Lavender (Folgate, Royal Velvet, Big Time Blue) and 2 varietals of French lavender (Grosso and Phenomenal). We selected these varietals for our field because of their striking colors and their hardiness to our northeastern climate.

When do they bloom?

We planted our field so that we would have some early bloomers (English lavender) and some late bloomers (French lavender). When our field reaches maturity, we will have colorful blooms from mid June until late July.

What’s the difference between French and English lavender?

English Lavender (true lavender) tends to be shorter and compact, whereas French Lavender (lavandin) grows much taller. English lavender is prized for culinary uses, and French lavender is used in fragrances and cosmetics.

Do we offer U-Pick lavender?

Yes, you can pick our lavender during our harvest events. If you inquire in the farm store, we will contact you with upcoming dates.

The Lavender Field

Saltwater Farm features one of the only sun-dial shaped lavender fields in the world. Rather than straight, parallel rows, each lavender row radiates from the top right corner of our field, where we will soon install a bluestone terrace for sunrise yoga, sunset drinks, and events.

The Orchard

Saltwater Farm is home to over 500 trees, including peach, apple, and pear trees. We do not spray our trees and we do not use pesticides of any kind.

The Native Meadow

Saltwater Farm believes in pollinators, insects and native grasses. By allowing weeds to exist on our farm, we encourage native species to thrive, and we contribute to a healthy ecosystem. The butterflies love to visit!

The Dahlia Patch

A few dahlias are starting to bloom in our Dahlia Patch, so be sure to check our store for fresh cut bouquets this summer!
